HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Who wouldn’t want to help eliminate homelessness? The Big Boss and the Williams Lumber & Hardware team think it’s important to do good things for the community we live in. Call it social responsibility or just plain being nice, we feel it’s important to help where and when can. That’s why we’ve partnered with Habitat for Humanity, an organization that exists to help build houses for people who otherwise couldn’t do it.
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and renovates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner or partner family. Habitat houses are then sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable loans. The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments then go into a revolving fund that is used to help build more houses.
Helping to build good houses for good people helps build good communities, and Williams wants to be a part of that. So, in a round about way, by supporting your local business of Williams Lumber & Hardware, you are helping people, too. It sounds like a pretty good thing to us. We hope you’ll join us when and where you can.
WILLIAMS COMPANION GARDEN at 15th & MAIN
The Big Boss and his wife love gardening. Well, let's say that Mrs. Big Boss loves gardening and Big Boss loves helping her do what she loves. They both realize however this little local community garden has big community impact. All kinds of people stop by the garden to have a good old chat and sometimes they even get their hands dirty, which is great, whether they admit it or not. And, then, there's loads of yummy food that come from the Williams Companion Garden and loads of beautiful flowers, too, and who doesn't love good a chat, yummy food and pretty flowers? And just last year, some of our veggies even won blue ribbons at the County Fair, and you just can't beat that with a stick. So, come on by and join us for a minute or two at the garden and see for yourself what the fuss is all about.
THE RHEMA PROJECT
The United Nations estimates that 50 million girls and women are missing from India’s population. This is a pretty major statistic and the Big Boss ain't happy about it. His wife isn't happy about it either, and, when she's not happy, nobody's happy. In fact, he and his wife feel so strongly about helping to save little girls from not only extinction but from neglect that they have linked up with the fabulous folks over at The Rhema Project who help bring water, books, medicine, micro-businesses and hope to far-flung places in India so that little girls get a chance to survive and thrive. Williams Lumber & Hardware knows full well that there are people in all corners of the world who need help, so we've picked just one corner and are doing what we can, when we can. If you want to help, journey over to The Rhema Project's website and see what grips you. We dare you. We dare you to do something different to change the world in which you live.
GCC
The Big Boss never imagined in a million years that he would find himself inside a church, let alone saying that it was "cool" and "changed my life." Nor did the Big Boss ever think he'd meet his future wife there, but he did, and now that church is changing their lives and the lives of their children. The Big Boss and his wife feel pretty strongly that people matter to God and God wants to matter to them. And, believe it or not, they found a rockin' church where this kind of stuff matters big time all the time. Check it out. We double dog dare you.
Life is good.
Get it done.
